Statutes, Case law and Attorney General OpinionsWisconsin has two statutes governing access to public meetings and records. There is a large body of case law that has interpreted these statutes, and the Attorney General is authorized to provide additional interpretations. These laws, cases and opinions can be accessed below or at left. A separate law governs access federal government records, the U.S. Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. s. 552. More information about FOIA can be found on the U.S. Department of Justice's Office of Information and Privacy Web site and under our Resources tab. The text of FOIA can be found here. |
